Essential Qualifications and
Skills
Minimum
Candidates must:
? have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the
role to a high standard;
? Be capable and competent of fulfilling the role to a high standard;
? have obtained at least Grade O6 (formerly D3) in five subjects in the
Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational
programmes) or equivalent or have passed an examination at the
appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be
assessed as being of a comparable to Leaving Certificate standard or
equivalent or higher or have appropriate relevant experience which
encompasses equivalent skills and expertise.
Desirable
? Previous experience of working in an education environment.
? Experience in providing support/welfare services for individuals
within an organizational setting.
? Effective problem-solving skills.
? Excellent communication skills.
Job Description The post is to provide Student Services and Administration support to the
students on the ATU Letterfrack campus.
The duties may be of a clerical nature such as:
? Preparation, certification and processing of salaries and wages
? The processing and payment of accounts
? The processing and examination of various claims and applications
for services
? Data entry on the Institute?s various systems
? The keeping of records and returns.
? The processing of examination results, student admission and
registration.
The appointee would be expected to make decisions within limits and
clearly defined guidelines and would normally carry out these duties under a
reasonable level of supervision.

Alternatively, the grading would be appropriate to jobs involving the
provision of secretarial services to a senior officer or to a group of senior
officers, including typing and audio-typing and involving access to and
processing significant confidential information. The job could involve regular
contracts with students, staff, the public and organisations and individuals at
all levels where discretion, tact, courtesy and judgement would have to be
constantly exercised. The jobholder would be expected to exercise a good
degree of initiative and be capable of working under a reasonable level of
supervision.
All jobs demand a good knowledge and skill in the use of Information and
Communication Technologies and appointees will be expected to use new
techniques and technologies as they arise. The Institute will provide the
necessary training as appropriate.
Following appointment, the appointee will be assigned to a particular
location and post ? Institutes may operate a number of different locations in
addition to the main campus. On assignment of the post, the Institute will
provide a detailed list of duties and responsibilities applicable to the post.
Duties Specific to the Role Duties Specific to the role in Letterfrack.
? The appointee may be assigned to any of a wide range of areas or
activities carried out in the University on its Letterfrack campus.
? Co-ordination of 1st Year Welcome Programme and Induction
timetable.
? Assist in the promotion and delivery of the #First5weeks welcome
programme to new students.
? Provide support, advice and information to students.
? Liaising with various departments, functional areas and students?
union on various welfare campaigns.
? Completion of 1st year reviews to identify supports required.
? Draft and prepare the funding proposal for submission to the HEA
e.g. Young Entrepreneur Programme.
? Use of Banner and Agresso software packages.
? Support the co-ordination and be present at annual Graduation.
? Assist students in accessing financial and practical supports.
